What is a bluff in Holdem Poker

What is a bluff in Holdem Poker?

A bluff is simply making a bet or a raise (or even a re-raise) when your hand is worthless. You are acting strong when you are actually weak.

An important poker weapon

Bluffing is all about fooling your opponent into thinking you have something when you dont. Learning to bluff effectively can make you a lot of money, but it can also lose you a lot too. It is a vital skill to develop, but there are some specific guidelines you should be aware of.

Donâ??t always bluff

Do you have a friend who constantly tells lies? And how often do you believe the words that come out of his mouth Thats right never. If you constantly bluff and get caught out doing it, then no one will take your bluff seriously. Every bluff you make will be called and you will ending up looking worse than an idiot  because you will be a broke idiot.

Tell a story

If you are going to bluff, make sure its convincing. If you are going to tell your friend you hooked up with a girl last Saturday night, dont tell him the girl was Angelina Jolie. Its the same with poker. If the flop comes J-2-K and both you and your opponent check, you shouldnt suddenly bet when a 5 lands on the turn. It makes no sense and is likely to be called.

However, if the turn shows a third club on the board your bet may signify that you made a flush. Its believable and could get your opponent to fold.

Remember, if you are going to lie  make it a good one that is believable and makes sense.
