Understanding Limits

Betting rules are an important part of Texas Hold’em Poker. Poker players fall into two categories – One group play’s smart and the other play rogue. The smart players limit the amount of wagering allowed and usually use logical strategy in order to fully enjoy the game. On the other end of the spectrum we have the rogue players. These players play on a whim, with risk and a sense of adventure. The rogue players are usually highly skilled and have the confidence and nerves to bet large sums of money.

For new players, it’s best to fully understand each version of wagering/betting before setting off to play for real money:

Limit Poker

In this version of betting, Texas Hold’em players are given a pre-determined amount of money to wager. In the first and second round of plays, players must bet on a specified amount that is restricted to a ‘limit’. For example, if the limit is $25, one player might bet $25 and another may raise $25, for a total of $50. A third player may raise again to $75, and at this point the original bettor can up the stakes by raising to $100. The betting would then be capped at $100, thus the round would allow a start at $25 and a limit of three raises.

Moving into the third and fourth rounds, betting values will of course double, however the raises are still capped at three. But, the wagers are now in $50 increments. Each wager is structured, which in turn makes it a lot harder for players to fold. Limit Poker attracts more mathematical and ‘smart’ players who love to calculate the odds and stats. Knowing what your opponent’s maximum betting range is confined to gives an extra advantage.

No limit poker

The ‘No Limit’ version of Texas Hold’em is something entirely different. In fact an animalistic approach may help you win. With this beastly version a player can bet as many chips as they want. Players can even go all-in if they are brave enough. This version of play however, makes the game unpredictable and requires balls of steel. If you crumble under pressure then logic dictates you stay far away from No Limit Poker.
In conclusion, you need to make sure which type of game you prefer and defenatly the type of game you are involved in. If you mess it up, you risk the chance of losing a great deal of money.
