The River

The River

After the fourth street sequence, or the Turn has been completed, the dealer will again discard the “burn” card and deal one final card to the community cards in the middle of the table. This is referred to as “going down the river” or simply “the river”. The river card is the final card to be dealt in Hold’em and added to the community cards to build a winning hand

After the river card is dealt, all players remaining in the hand make another round of wagers. Once again beginning with the small blind or the first player to his or her left who is still in the hand. Players once again decide on either check, call, raise, re-raise or fold during their turn to bet. Once this sequence has been completed, each player reveals his hand and the strongest hand wins.
